Tvix Users Thread

Featured Replies

Hello,

I seem to not be the only one here using Unraid servers to server up content to the Tvix Media Players.

Thought I would start a thread here to help iron out any issues to make Tvix - > unraid work as smoothly as possible.

So far I have a Unraid 4.2.1 (all Sata drives) server along with a Tvix 4100 running the lastest beta 1.3.05RC1

Whilst waiting for NFS to become part of Unraids next version :) I wanted to try and get it all running as simply as possible. I am trying to play a combination of TS high def files along with 720/1080p mkv video files.

Simplest solution for me would be a crossover cable between the unraid and the tvix using samba connections. I tried this last night and found that no TS or 1080p files would play and 720p files gave up after 10 minutes or so.

Though from reading the forum it seems I am taking a huge data performance hit using user shares rather than mounting directly to the drives. I'll hopefully try that again tonight.

Next then is either using the NFS netshare software on the windows pc.. or trying to get NFS sharing working on the Mac Mini with links through to the unraid (NFS manager has come up as a possible bit of software to use).

I would prefer the Mac solution as my mini uses very little power and is on all the time as its the main music library in the house.

Anyone had any success with either of the NFS solutions ? Or has anyone got it working directly on the unraid server itself ?

Thanks

Matt

As a update.. now running gig lan to the unraid/xp machine using netshare and a NFS connection to the TVIX.

Works very well (TS and mkv files)... just waiting for NFS built into unraid to make it all perfect :)

So not working directly but working fine via a relay through another machine? ??? How well does this work if you use SMB through the relay? Or if you try playing via an SMB share on the relay as a server? Just trying to understand if th eissue is possibly the SMB implementation on the TVIX. You've certainly peaked my interest in the TVIX!

I'm not sure.. I can link the tvix directly to the Unraid if I use samba... some 720p mkv worked ok.. and I suspect dvd iso's would as well but 1080 ts or 1080p MKV just lag and stutter like crazy.

But using the Xp machine as the nfs server (which is still just linked to the unraid by network drive mapping) works fine and I can stream everything ??

So NFS seems the way to go.. but I would love to be able to drop the need for the xp machine at all.

As a update.. the 6500 tvix is released and shipping next week... of interest besides the quicker chip and more ram is serious improvements using it over Samba, where by it seems that 40mbps hidef files stream ok.

If this is true (and I'll test next week) then I'll no longer need to run a nfs server on my windows pc.. and the connection can be tvix direct to unraid.

More to follow when I get my hands on it..

I've got two Tvix-4100's and a Popcorn Hour A-100 that I'm trying to connect to a new unRaid (v4.4.2 server pro) stock MD-1510/LC system.  If anyone has successfully connected a Tvix-4100, I would greatly appreciate seeing your connection methods (users, shares, TVIX Network disk info, etc).  The popcorn hour connects fine and I'm streaming Blu-rays over SMB, but I'm pulling my hair out trying to get the Tvix-4100 to see unRaid (SMB or NFS).  I've been streaming the Tvix's from two ReadyNAS NV+'s for years, but I'm ready to throw in the towel unless I can get some help from some of you.

-Pings to both unRaid and Tvix-4100 are good.

-I tried the user "tvixhd1" with password "tvixhd1".  "tvixhd1" shares don't work either.

-Using a static IP on both unRaid and the Tvix-4100.

-Share "Movies" on unRaid (192.168.0.207) can't be seen by Tvix-4100 using "Movies" and IP "192.168.000.207" under network disk settings.

-I'm familiar with nearly every aspect of the Tvix-4100, PH, and now the unRaid system.

-I'll be happy with SMB at a minimum, but NFS would be preferred.

-Tried to connect on both Tvix-4100's with no luck so far.  Tvix doesn't time out or "not connect", but simply pulls up a blank directory every time.

Many thanks for your help.  I don't want to abandon the Tvix-4100 and I know that some of you are using this media player as I've read EVERY Tvix post.

Well, I don't have a 4100 but a 6500 but i think it's the same.

Using samba.

Both tvix & unraid are static IP (192.168.1.150 & 192.168.1.250)

They're both connected by routeur (also with static IP (192.168.1.1) - in fact, everything is static IP in my network).

I made a share in the unraid server that is call 'tvixhd4'

In the tvix, I call a share tvixhd4 using the static IP of the unraid :

network disk 4 : slow (samba)

share name : tvixhd4

server IP : 192.168.1.250

ID : tivxhd1

password : tvixhd1

And  that's it. Nothing else to do.

In fact, i have a share in network disk 1 that is call tvixhd1, disk 2 is call tvixhd2 and disk 3 = tvixhd3 BUT id and password are all tvixhd1.

If I change those, it won't work. I don't know why and since it's working well, i leave as it is.

I am in the same boat.  I have a TVIX 6500 and I have never been able to get as far as you have.  Do you have to name the share "tvixhd4"  I have tried virtually everything to get my 6500 to see shares on my network but I have had no luck.  Even using Vista 64x and installing the Dvix Netshare program has not worked.

I appreciate any other insight you have on how you got this to work.

This will be my temporary solution until I build a new HTPC and start running XBMC again.....

I was finally able to connect my Tvix-4100 to unRaid, but I'm cheating a little by using Netshare (Tvix's NFS software) via another PC (Vista 64 bit).  I have been unable to directly connect the Tvix to unRaid and I'm almost out of options.  After re-reading Jupilerman's post above, it appears that he/she is using Netshare as well.  I'll continue my testing and will post results soon.  Meanwhile, my PCH A-100 works perfectly with unRaid.

I have not been able to get my 6500 to connect to anything other than my super old Infrant NAS (before it died and I switch to unraid).  I have no idea what I am doing wrong or what I am missing.  I have tried the Netshare tool (with no luck).  I am starting to think the share name needs to be specific.  (Although this was not the case with my old InfrantNAS)

Do you have to name the share "tvixhd4"

Yes if you're using the 4th spot in the TVIX.

If you're using the 1st spot, name it tvixhd1

Ok - tried that - still no luck.

What about the computer name?  Does that need to be there?  I mean there is already a place to enter the IP address.  Also what about the login and password.

Tonight I am going to try with my new unraid server - I will report back.

I figured it out.

In the Tvix interface I needed to enter the share name.  Not the computer name. I don't even know where I got it in my head that I needed a computer name there.

Thanks!

I'm still looking for settings from anyone who has successfully connected a Tvix 4100 (or similar) directly to unRaid (without using Netshare) via SMB or NFS.  Pumping my movies through a second PC using Netshare is wasteful and unreliable.  Any help is appreciated!

Took me a while to figure out - but here is what I did.

The share name on the unraid must match one of the 4 drive shares that are defaulted on the Tvix 4100.

So you need to create a share in unraid as  "tvixhd1" or "tvixhd2" or "tvixhd3" or "tvixhd4"

Also make the username and share namethe same  (at least that is what I did)

Then give the share a password.

On the tvix unit - enter the share name  - tvixhd#

enter the IP address of the unraid

enter the username (same as the share name)

enter the password you created

set to SMB Slow

And you should be all set.  It drove me nuts trying to figure it out.  But I am able to stream 18-22GB MKV 1080P HD files withou any stuttering or glitches.

Where do you enter a username and password on the Tvix?  I thought the default (and only) username/password for the tvix is set at "tvixhd1"?  I can't find any place to enter it and I've had two Tvix's for nearly two years.  Thanks for your help so far.....

All right folks, I finally got it working tonight.  And I consider myself well-versed with the Tvix and NAS's!

To elaborate a little:

1)  Must have an unRaid share named "tvixhd1".

2)  Must have an unRaid username of "tvixhd1".  I used password "tvixhd1" as well.

3)  In the first network connection on the Tvix, enter your unRaid IP along with "tvixhd1".  This is what kicked my butt for several weeks.  If you're using the third network slot on the Tvix, I believe everything above must be "tvixhd3".

Unfortunately, DVD ISO's work fine where Blu-ray M2TS files are stuttering.  My PCH A100 streams M2TS files fine with unRaid.  There is always more work to do I guess (NFS?).  Many thanks to everyone for their assistance.

Now the NFS looks to work nice, see my post here -> http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4208.msg42393#msg42393

Whe the WOL works , then I also look into IF my TviX could also wake up the server.... and there are a solution if you use the modded FW DL here -> http://www.binary-art.net/

then there are a solution, see this WIKI -> http://wiki.opentvix.com/Main_Wrapper

I have not tested it yet, but it's looks promising  ;D

I got it to work with WOL during TviX booting I'm using FW with Opentvix

WOL

• Any "user" script should be put in /opt/opentvix/conf/init.user.

• Make directory and file if they not exist, and make init.user executable : chmod 755 init.user

•        Create below script and call it from the user.init file.

The wake up script

#!/bin/sh

datestr=`date +%Y-%m-%dT%H-%M-%S`

echo "$datestr -- Wake Tower"

ether-wake XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

sleep 5

• XX = MAC address to server
