March 17, 201115 yr Hi there. I currently have my unRaid set up with: parity device: WD20EARS disk1 device: WD20EARS disk2 device: WD20EARS disk3 device: WD20EARS disk4 device: WD20EARS disk5 device: WD20EARS disk6 device: WD20EARS disk7 device: WD1600JB (IDE) (soon to be switched to WD20EARS) and I have another "mounted" drive, ST3160023AS, mounted in /mnt/user/other_drive on this "other_drive", i have my: MySQL SABnzbd SickBeard CouchPotatoApp "post processing directory" "download directory" on this drive, so this way, even if the array is down for whatever reason, my downloads will still "download", and stopping the array is fine. What I was wondering, is I just "acquired" a 1TB 7200 drive, and I was thinking maybe I should use this as my "cache" drive, as I am downloading way too much per day, so this way it will only "write" to the array once a day, rather than all day long when the stuff downloads. Does the cache drive work in this way? if the array is "rebuilding" or wahtever, will the apps I run still "run" in the background? will the array be able to be stopped properly without having to stop the "apps" first? Am I making sense?? THanks. Steve (TheStapler)

March 17, 201115 yr Author Ok, is there a "pre stop array script" and a "post array start script" that can be used? so this way, my "apps" can be started and stopped properly... also, you mentioned that YES my apps will run if the array is stopped, BUT, how can the array be stopped, if the apps are running still? Steve.
March 17, 201115 yr There is no scipt to use to stop your apps. also, you mentioned that YES my apps will run if the array is stopped, BUT, how can the array be stopped, if the apps are running still? When did I post that?? Peter

Yes if the array is "rebuilding" or wahtever, will the apps I run still "run" in the background? Yes will the array be able to be stopped properly without having to stop the "apps" first? No I assumed that this is what you meant.

March 17, 201115 yr You could partition the cache drive? How do you do taht ? I shuld like that //Peter

Yes Yes No Peter Your method (here) of answering questions was rather blunt and wide open to interpretation, so I can understand the confusion. It's usually helpful to quote the questions asked with your answers underneath, don't assume everyone follows the train of thought you were on Just my .02, I'm sure the help is greatly appreciated, but a little structure breeds a good deal of clarification
March 17, 201115 yr Maybe your "whatever" means stopped. "Whatever" could really mean just about anything. I chose not to address and answer to "whatever". The apps can be running any time the array is started and accessible. The array is started and accessible when it is rebuilding. The array is started and accessible during normal use. The array is not started and accessible when it is stopped (obviously) or when you are adding a new disk and the new disk is being cleared. Peter
