Triceratops
I have a new Seagate ST5000LM000-2AN170_WCJ55S4Y 5TB drive. When I initially ran preclear on it, a saw these notifications: Warning [CLC-NAS-1] - offline uncorrectable is 160 and Warning [CLC-NAS-1] - reported uncorrect is 40 Checking forum posts that addressed the same issue, it seemed like the consensus was - keep an eye on it, if it continues, replace the drive. One post recognized such notices could be indications of a faulty cable or connection. I chose to run preclear again, without touching the drive and the uncorrectable notifications did not reoccur. Here are the summation lines from the SMART section of the reports from the two preclear reports (dates added at the end of the lines): # ATTRIBUTE INITIAL CYCLE 1 STATUS # Reported_Uncorrect 0 40 Up 40 2021.08.09 # Reported_Uncorrect 40 40 2021.08.11 Is this a concern? One would expect the factory checks to have eliminated these occuring but they seem to have completely abated - the 2nd preclear took 41 hours, as roughly did the 1st. Is it worth engaging a warranty replacement? Thanks for your time. Quote Link to comment

Those errors are usually not cable/connection related, keep an eye on them, if they continue to climb it's not a good sign. Quote Link to comment
