If you know it is off by default then it's OK.

I will apply update tomorrow.  I would assume if it is off when I go in then it means it is off, cause right now I know it is on because of what my disks and syslog show.  Stay tuned.  The plus side to keeping this and returning the other board is that it means I am that much closer to a Norco.  My fingers are crossed.

Applied latest BIOS update, HPA off by default.

Booted, removed HPA from 2 disks, re-built, parity good.  MSI mobo going back, keeping the sempron 140 to cut power usage.

I used to have a sempron 140 (45w) in my server and I ended up switching to an e5500 (65w) because it used less power at idle. My sempron & 3 green drives idled at about 70w but my e5500 & 3 green drives now idle at 40w.  Check the forums but I believe that the AMD cool n' quiet drivers are not included in the unraid kernel.  I believe that is why the sempron performed so poorly at idle.  I think you can add the necessary files but I never got around to doing that because I got a supermicro C2SEE & e5500 for $85 and then used my sempron 140 and MB for a HTPC.

Also I'd suggest getting a power measuring device (i.e. kill-a-watt) to see exactly how many watts you are using.

85 bucks is solid, thanks for the input about cool n quiet, but I will still take a 45 watt chip at full throttle over the 125watt one I had in there.  The price was right at 32bucks, so i am happy.  Although I will definitely still look into the kill a watt to measure the true draw of my system.  I really am curious what it is pulling.
