Asus ROG Strix X299-E Gaming board w/ i9-7920x build - SATA recognition issues

Featured Replies

I am moving my Unraid build to new hard.

ASUS ROG Strix X299-e Gaming

i9-7920x (12core24thread44pcilanes)

32GB DDR4-3600 RAM

8x8 WD Shucked drives

1xIntel 750 800GB PCI-e NVME (was storing my docker/vm on previous build. Going to transfer all to new cache then likely remove)

1 ASUS Hyper M.2 Gen2 enclosure with 4x512gb Samsung NVME's (new for this build, going to be cache)

1 nVidia Quadro P2000

Everything boots up fine but it's only recognizing 3 of my 8 Sata Drives. I've checked BIOS and same there. I've swapped both SATA and Power Cables around and still only slots 2,3, and 8 appear. I've removed both the Hyper M.2 and Intel 750 NVME thinking maybe it disabled some of the sata ports (BIOS doesn't show that it did).

Any ideas as to why 5/8 ports are not working? BIOS shows them all enabled but this is really driving me nuts. I came from Dell R720xd and really don't wanna move everything back after putting this build together. The Dell was noisy and recently moved office to basement.

You means swap different disks to those 8 SATA port still only disk 2 3 8 show up ?

Any damage on mobo PCB circuit trace around those problem SATA port during installation ?

Some motherboards use same pci lanes in two places. I suggest to read the mb manual and check if e.g. using last m.2 slot or card slot excludes some sata ports.

Yes, common problems.
