disk size report error

Featured Replies

I just upgraded from 4.5.6 to 4.7 and cannot get the system running. There is a difference in the size of several disks , parity, disks 1, 2, 6, 10, 11, from before the upgrade to now.

Here is the configuration of my server.

I remember when I added the 2T drives I had to swap the parity drive with the data drives so the one reporting the highest size was in the parity position even thought the 2 T drives are all the same model number. I did not change any of the drives or their position when I upgraded. I don’t understand why they are reporting different size now after I upgraded. Do I have to go back to 4.5.6?

Any ideas?

Rick

I just went back to 4.5.6 and there is no longer any size error.

What motherboard do you have?

Is HPA enabled (it shouldn't)?

Search the forums on HPA and it'll provide a ton of info for you

I have a  Giabyte GA-EP45-UD3P motherboard. I searched for HPA and found that other Gigabyte boards have this problem. I will try to upgrade the BIOS as one person suggested.

Thanks for the help

Rick

Yes, you'll have to fall back to 4.5.6 until you get the HPA's removed from the drives. You need the array considered valid so you can rebuild 1 drive at a time as you remove 1 HPA at a time.

I think I have a big problem. I have six drives that need to have hpa removed. I used hdat2 to remove the hpa from the first, rebuilt the disk and got the message that it was successful. I started on the second drive and then noticed that only 30% of the first drive is used when it was 80% before the rebuild. Has the entire array been damaged? Have I lost everything? IS ther a way to recover from this?
