NVMe Overheating

Featured Replies

I have a VM running Windows where the hard drive is directly passthrough to one of the NVMe SSDs on my system. The drive is not assigned to the array or a pool.

My issue is that this drives keeps reporting back a temp of 84 degrees for a period in Unraid, even though the drive itself is cool to the touch and, in it's logs, is reporting back about 36-38 degrees. It only exhibits this behavior when the VM is running, but only for a bout 30 mins at a time periodically (like 12 hours or so apart). I've checked the Windows logs and it's not doing anything at this time to 'thrash' the drive.

Does anyone have a view why Unraid might be behaving this way?

My setup here is TUF-Pro x570 coupled with a 5700g. The NVMe drive is a Samsung 980 1TB. Any direction on help appreciated.

Looks like the same issue this person has with their 980

Thanks. Agree that this is precisely the same issue. Thank you! I had searched but oddly not found this thread so appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

Same here, sadly!

Any hint?
