April 20, 201115 yr I'm on my way to populate my unRaid server with data before setting up the parity drive but I think I'm creating too many shares... is there any way I can consolidate the shares so that I don't have to connect to so many different shares? I made a Movies, Music, and Pictures share folders (along with several others for other purposes like backup) but I think I want to put them all under one share called Media (with split level 2) instead of 3 separate shares (with split level 1). Another question: How are you guys setting up your shares? Thanks!
April 20, 201115 yr Very funny! I right now have a similar setup. Multiple usershares like movies/MP3/DOCS , but right now want to just have one usershare called "unraid" then move all those folders into that one folder. I have about 8TB to move and I'm trying to make sure it is the correct thing I want to do. I'm trying to eliminate having so many shares all over the place when I really need them in one usershare that is accessible over the LAN. How I'm going to move all this WITH my parity drive is gonna heat things up a bit.
April 20, 201115 yr I ended up setting my share "TowerMovies"/Split Level 1. Prior to unRAID, I had the WDTV live, which was folder based browsing (and a pain) - which required additional folder structure. The Boxee Box movie wall/media source scanning was a much better interface - and completed the TV/Movie sort automatically, it was easier just to create one giant user share. If I did it all over, I would do something similar to what is shown here (with split level 2) http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Un-Official_UnRAID_Manual#Split_level Shares setup is highly dependent on the media player used, but I also discovered it is easier to troubleshoot/verify/fix if the general type of media is sorted: ie Movie/TV Show - Blu-Ray/DVD.
April 20, 201115 yr I stuck to having Movies, TV, Pictures, Music and storage as individual shares. I didn't really see any point in combining them. If you share the disks and then go to each disk you can move (move, not copy) each share into a new directory (the new share) and the data won't actually be moved over the network, rather just the filesystem table gets updated. It will be quick to move a whole directory that way. Peter

April 20, 201115 yr Author How do I remove the Movies, Pictures, and Music shares from showing up in the Shares section? Deleting the folder doesn't do it. Thanks!
April 20, 201115 yr This worked for me: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#How_do_I_remove_a_User_Share.3F To delete a User Share, just clear the Share name field and click Apply. Only entirely empty User Shares may be deleted." You should also delete the top level folders for that User Share from every unRAID disk before the next boot, or the User Share may be re-created.
April 20, 201115 yr Author Thanks, mbryanr! Looks like you beat me to posting the solution! Love all the help on this forum!!!
