[SOLVED] Weird unRaid issue, sometimes it boots sometimes it doesn't

Featured Replies

I had this problem ever since I changed the mobo from Gigabyte to Supermicro (specs in my sig). I have tried formatting the usb flash (Lexar Firefly) a couple of times using different methods (HP utility and Win 7 built in util) it doesn't seem to make a difference. I fixed this issue a couple of times by resetting the BIOS and just changing the boot order. And once it cleared by using the make bootable batch file that comes with the unraid package. I'm not sure really what it is.

I ordered known compatible RAM and should arrive in a couple of days just to make sure it isn't the issue. I will also run a lengthy memtest on them just to be 100% sure it isn't memory.

I also thought of updating the BIOS (I'm not sure if I have the latest ver. or not).

Finally here's how it hangs, I took a pic of the screen with my iPhone so sorry for the crappy quality. I can't understand why it's stuck there. If any of you have any idea please share.

It looks like it is booting from the USB drive. Check for latest BIOS and run a lengthy memtest.

Yes, flash the BIOS and do not forget to disable INT13 on the SM SAS controller - this will cure your boot-up problems

Ok. BIOS updated and INT 13 is now disabled. It's booting fine at the moment but I'm facing another issue.

Now my AOC-SASLP-MV8 card is failing to detect port 3. It's the first time it has ever done that. And the weird thing a simple restart gets rid of that error. It has done it twice when I was troubleshooting the boot problem and it does it on the same port and a restart clears it. I believe it's running 3.0.1.21 BIOS if I'm remembering correctly.

I just can't catch a break!

Any idea on where should I start to troubleshoot ?

Any idea on where should I start to troubleshoot ?

Buy another new cable/try a different cable/move a different and working drive to that port and see what happens.

Removed the card and cables and made sure everything is connected properly. It must've been a loose cable since now I can't seem to replicate the problem (yet!).

Hopefully it won't come back.

Thanks for the help guys , I really appreciate it!
