[Solved] [6.9.2] Transcoding with intel GPU, missing /dev/dri

Featured Replies

Hello, i am new to UNRAID and this is my first setup. Everything went well except when it came to enable HW transcode, i am unable to find /dev/dri folder. Looking at system devices i saw that it uses vfio-pci instead of i915 as Kernel driver? How do i modify this to use i915 so i can get /dev/dri ?

additional information: i dont attach any monitor to this server. should i get a dummy HDMI and plug it into the HDMI output? BIOS has been set-up to use IGFX as primary display.

I didn't do anything. everything is default unraid install.

However, i managed to solve the issue with the help of the post below. Apparently i need to make an empty file,

- Run this in unraid terminal to create the empty file:

touch /boot/config/modprobe.d/i915.conf

- make sure all Windows VM display is set to VNC and not to the integrated GPU.

After that, restart and the /dev/dri is there.

Although i still don't understand how in these days of modern operating system we need a single empty file to make things work.

Thanks all for the support.

Driver is blacklisted in default unraid < 6.10. Creating the file removes the blacklist. Black list was removed in 6.10.
