Parity drive failed, replaced drive but no option to start the array

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My parity drive failed, thought it may have just been unraid messing up as it'd been on for over a year, so I stopped the array, rebooted the server and the failed drive disappeared from the array device list - fine, no problem, I've got a drive to replace it with (Not a new drive, one from another server with minimal use) I've whacked the new drive in, but it's not showing up on the dropdown for "Identification" so I can select it as a parity drive?

I've read somewhere about the "New Config", but I'm worried to proceed because it states "This is a utility to reset the array disk configuration so that all disks appear as "New" disks, as if it were a fresh new server." and it makes me think that it'll make me format all the drives to proceed - which is obviously bad as data loss.

Been following along with this: https://wiki.unraid.net/The_parity_swap_procedure but I'm stuck on step 3.

Edit: Just for extra info, i've checked the system devices and it's showing up as the following:
"[1:0:0:0]disk ATA WDC WD30EFRX-68E 0A82 /dev/sdb -"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kind regards,

The Parity Swap procedure is not appropriate for replacing a failed parity drive :( You should just be able assign the replacement drive and start the array to rebuild parity.

The fact it appears to not be showing up to assign suggests an issue at the hardware level. You might want to carefully check power and SATA cabling to the drive.  Posting  your systems diagnostics zip file might also help with diagnosis.

Hi Itimpi,

Thank you for the quick response! Please see attached the diagnostics. I also added a little bit more info to the initial post regarding the drive.

Thanks again,

Kind regards,

Issue resolved. I reslotted the device (Drive caddy) and shut down / restarted the device and it showed up. Phew. Thank you for your quick reply, I really really appreciate it. Lesson learnt, always check your drive connections before posting. Was just in a bit of a panic!

Thank you again, please consider this issue resolved!

Kind regards,
