[SOLVED] Quick Split Level Question (hopefully)

Featured Replies

With a split level of 2, I believe this will allow "Archer" to be created across all disks, but keep the Seasons together.  However, what about the miscellaneous files within the Archer folder?  Can these potentially be split across discs as well?  If they can span multiple discs, I'm wondering if it'll cause any hiccups when media cataloging programs try to access them.

1 TV (User share)

2 -- Archer

    background.jpg

    series.xml

3     --Season 1

     |

3     --Season 2

yes... folder.png could be on 1 disk, background.jpg on another, and series.xml on a third

shouldn't be an issue if you have the program looking at the UserShare.  Wouldn't know the difference.  just might end up spinning up 3 disks potentially

Guess we'll have to try and see.  Thanks!

Maybe create a 'NFO' folder to contain fanart, covers, XML files, to contain it all at least on one disk in the folder.

Unfortunately, with the program I'm using, that option wouldn't work.  The program looks in the series folder to derive the information, and you can't specify a different location.  I just copied some files over, and noticed that it did split them as expected.  Will have to test to see if it affects browsing...

You can use the spinup groups to keep all the share drives running at once so you don't have issues with search delays. All the disks will be spinning anyways as the info is accessed so it really doesn't matter about those 3 files too much.

Thanks for the suggestion Peter.  Would that cache_dirs script work well in this instance?

It seems to help MediaBrowser not spin-up the Movie share drives when I go to the TV share and vice-versa.

Exactly what I needed!  Does some of your metadata also span drives?  And if so, have you noticed any hiccups browsing your collection?

I keep each movie and each TV series together on the same disk, along with the metadata. Movies and TV both span multiple disks. I set-up the spin-up groups for each share type and that's about all I did.
