Missing Key File

Featured Replies

Hi,

Over the last few months, I have an intermittent issue with a "missing key file"

Normal behaviour:

Server runs 24/7, using a Sandisk USB for boot, a random old drive to start the array, and a bunch of 3TB WD Reds in a zpool. When I log in to the dashboard, I have a dark theme and all the pages work as expected.

Problematic behaviour:

Every now and then, I'll log into the dashboard to start or stop a container.

When I get to the login page, it's a white background instead of my dark theme.

When I login, my dark theme is replaced with the stock white theme

The server information in the top right says "Unraid OS - Missing key file"

The dashboard has a bunch of php errors relating to docker

The docker tab is absent, but the containers are still running

The log usage shows 100% but when I try to open the log (logging.htm) the page just loads and timeouts eventually.

When I reboot, everything is back to normal, until the next time it (seemingly randomly) happens.

I thought the boot USB was dying, so I replaced it.

The problem went away for a few weeks, but now it's back again.

What steps do I need to take to diagnose it and fix it for good? This system has been rock-steady for years up until a few months ago and I'd like to get it back to being stable.

Edit:

Syslog - I'll have to capture that the next time it happens. Unfortunately, I have no idea when it's going to happen. Before I replaced the USB, it would happen almost daily. Since replacing it a few weeks ago, this is the first occurrence. With the last USB, it progressively got worse until I had to shutdown with the power button because none of the controlled shutdown (ui, remote ssh, or local terminal) were actually shutting the system down.

Try a different USB port, ideally USB2 when you boot up.

You can also try the Flash Remount Plugin (you'll have to reboot after installing, and the system has to be in a working state when you install)

Failing that, transfer the key to a new device

Transferring key to new device - did that a few weeks ago, the problem went away until today.

Different USB port - also did that, albeit to a USB3 port. I'll switch it to a USB2 port this evening.

Flash remount - will also install that this evening.

In the meantime, it happened again.

This time, I grabbed the diagnostics
