Stopping access to folders under a share...

Featured Replies

Running unRaid 4.7. Have a share called Backup. This is where all the PC's in the house send real-time backups to the system. Under Backup are subfolders for each PC.

During parity calcs and some other work, I want to be able to stop these boxes writing to unRaid. So i thought to myself, Self, just set the share to "Don't Export". Sure enough, can no longer access \\tower\backup.

But I noticed the drives were still spinning and these PC's where still backing up. Turns out, after setting the share to "Don't Export", the PC's themselves can still access \\tower\backup\pc1\ for instance.

How can I stop them from being able to access it completly while I am doing things and then restore access?

Thanks,

Shawn

Try restarting after changing the share setting. Just so you know, The shares are intended to be available during a parity calculation and the calculation is not harmed by writing to the shares.

I was just trying to alleviate the "writes" to the system while parity checks are running and such, that is all. Then I found they could still access shares even when I stop exporting it, then became a principle thing to figure out how to kick them buggers out.  ::)

I will try a restart... <sigh> Was hoping be a bit simpler. :)

That did it - stopped array, restarted array, no more access. Bit of a pain...

Thanks for the tip dgaschk!
