Help Understanding SMART "available spare has fallen below threshold"

Featured Replies

Hi, I woke up to my dockers not running and found that the drive holding my appdata was offline.

in SMART I get "available spare has fallen below threshold". But not sure what this means. The drive is a Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB about 6 months old.

I have tried power cycling the machine without success.

Can someone help me understand the problem and any possible fix or do I need to replace it?
I got weekly backups but the backup was planned for tonight so would be nice to get the data back but not critical.

The drive is failing SMART and needs to be replaced

SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: FAILED!
- available spare has fallen below threshold
- media has been placed in read only mode

SSDs / HDD keep spare sectors so that when a sector goes bad it's automatically mapped to one of the spares  That spare pool has no been exhausted.

Is there a way at this time to overprovision it?

Do not believe so.  You should copy the info from it, and have it replaced under warranty.
