Why only boot from BIOS? + never rebooted from within the Unraid GUI

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I started my first Unraid server 2 days ago and faced my first challenges !!!
It boots well only if I go through the BIOS and "save changes and reset". But it doesn't boot at all if I don't go through the Bios. Why is that?

I did the disk assignment and parity sync with no issue. Then I installed

I didn't read your diagnostics, but I faced a similar issue on a Z590 / B560 chipset. I use the Intel i5-11400 as a CPU.

Unraid would never boot directly. I had to go into BIOS to choose the boot device, which would work every time.

I fixed this by turning off 'fast boot' options in the BIOS. After turning off fast boot, the boot-up process took longer, but I boot into Unraid every time. I strongly suggest giving this a shot. I also updated my BIOS, but I don't think that's what fixed the problem.

Thanks!  I will try your solution tomorrow morning and let you know the outcome.

After 10 hours of troubleshooting post upgrading my server, this was the solution i needed. Thank you so much for posting, you've allowed me a good nights sleep after a crappy day.

I'd also like to chime in here and inform that Fast Boot was indeed my issue as well. Nothing less than disabling it fully ended in a successful outcome.
Thank you kindly for sharing this!

Also chiming in here and had the same issue with my ASUS B660M-A D4. Weirdly this doesn't happen on a Gigabyte Z690 motherboard.
