Is it normal to see a red [FAIL] notification when you're building parity for the first time on a new array?

Featured Replies

I'm using UNRAID for the first time and built my first array.  I have 5 x 14 TB drives but had existing data on one of the drives.

So first, I built an array of 4 x 14 TB disks.  Then, I copied the data over to the array.  Then, I added the 14 TB  drive to the array as a parity drive.  Then, UNRAID started doing the parity thing.

This morning I got this message:

Unraid Status: 03-06-2022 00:20
Notice [MEDIA-UNRAID] - array health report [FAIL]
Array has 8 disks (including parity & cache)

Is it normal to see a red [FAIL] notification when you're building parity for the first time on a new array?

Also, does UNRAID automatically format the drive with the proper file system and stuff before it does parity?

Yes, because parity is not valid until it is completed.
