motherboard died - new build USB won't boot

I got a new MB and CPU - a celeron G5900 with an Asus Prime H410M-A motherboard. Original USB stick that used to work didn't. So I made a new one. Neither works.

However, if I try to make a generic Ubuntu install USB iso it boots up just fine, so it has nothing to do with any sort of USB bootability issue.
