//tower ?s

Featured Replies

Just got my server set up and everything appears to be working properly.  When I access it from another computer,  //tower doesn't work.  Typing in the ip address does work.  Is this ok or is something wrong?  Just want to make everything alright before I start assinging drives.  Total noob here when it comes to Linux.

Your probably mean \\tower right?  ;)

Yes.  \\tower and //tower doesn't work.  Figured I would try both.  ;)

Might be that issue that some people have had when they don't have dhcp enabled on unRaid server. Problem with dns defaulting to some address like 192.168.1.1 or something like that. If you don't use dhcp might be that issue. Try to find the thread here but you need to add that dns address manually through config script.

It sounds like your other machine (i.e., your Windows machine) is not resolving the server name (i.e., not properly translating the server name into the right IP address).  Here's what you might try:

  • Reboot your Windows machine to maybe make it "rediscover" the network and any new devices
  • Browse to the unRAID web interface (using the IP address), look at the "Settings" page, and make sure that your server is, in fact, named "Tower"
  • Try toggling the entry for "Local Master" on the settings page.  You might have multiple machines trying to maintain the local network info

I'm not an expert, so these might not help, but they would be the first things I'd try.

Also, try restarting your router.  I recently changed the processor in my unRAID server, and all of a sudden I couldn't access the web admin page.  Of course, I thought I had some kind of hardware problem, but it ended up being that my unRAID  wasn't receiving an IP address from my router.  Strange (especially since I'm using a late-model SonicWall) but it happens.

Wanton & Musicmann,

Thanks for the replies.  When I get home tonight I will give them a try.

I occasionally have issues resolving the names too. My servers both get the same IP address every time - nailed down by MAC address. If you can do this add the server names into your Hosts table - name resolution problem solved. ;D

I'm new to unRaid, and had the same problem.  Changing the workgroup name in the settings section of unRaid to match my workgroup settings on my PCs did the trick.
