July 17, 20223 yr I have 10 external usb hdds connected via a powered usb hub and each of these hdd is powered by a smart plug so I can turn off or on the hdd I need. I use them little, but I have a problem and a question. The question is: how do I safely disconnect a usb hdd from unraid? just unmount from Unassigned Devices and turn off the disk? The problem is: if I unmount a usb hdd and turn it off from the smart plug, when I turn it on again the system does not recognize it until I disconnect the usb socket of the hub and reconnect it to mobo. Consider that I have used the same hardware on xpenology and have never had any problems with this procedure. Thank you

Does the OS detect it being removed? or does it think it is still there as the USB controller in the disk is powered from the hub and its just the spinner that needs the additional power?

July 17, 20223 yr Author I'm running the last version 6.10.3. I can't figure out what the problem could be also because i have been installing unraid for two days, but the same hardware worked perfectly with xpenology until recently.
August 14, 20232 yr I'm having similar issues to what you described. I have a Sabrent 5 disk USB 3.2 enclosure for my unraid and it randomly disconnects during heavy I/O. Did you find a solution? I tried a few including powertop (validating no usb power saving setting on usb was enabled). I don't think the "usb-storage quirks" worked for me. I think we both have the same chipset `174c:55aa ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1051E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1053E SATA 6Gb/s bridge, ASM1153 SATA 3Gb/s bridge, ASM1153E SATA 6Gb/s bridge` https://sabrent.com/community/xenforum/topic/106596/docking-station-on-linux-random-disconnects-with-hubextportstatus-failed-err-71-errors-unraid
