July 19, 20223 yr Saw this on the console as I was taking the server down for a reboot. What does this mean?
July 19, 20223 yr According to syslog disk16 (dm-15) was unmountable then you formatted it. Was it supposed to have data? Or was it a new disk that hadn't been formatted yet? Your screenshot also showed disk15 (dm-14) in a similar state, it is mounted now but has little if any data.
July 21, 20223 yr Author Both were new. Disk16 was installed parity rebuilt and never showed as needing formatted... Then it unmounted during a parity check and remained that way. I formatted it and I'm sure I lost some data..... The next disk added showed unformatted from the get-go and thus was formatted and then parity rebuilt.
July 21, 20223 yr Author I'm about to scrap this entire server and start over. Just finished a parity check after rebuilding that damn drive and my error count is 1285349.
July 21, 20223 yr Your description of what you did is unclear and doesn't sound like it was done correctly. Was this new disk added to a new slot, or was it used to replace an existing disk? Normally, if you add a disk to a new slot, Unraid will clear the disk unless it has been precleared. This is so parity will remain valid since a clear disk is all zeros and has no effect on parity. This is the only time Unraid actually requires a clear disk. After the disk is clear you can format it and it is ready to store files. No rebuilding is involved in this situation.
