Intial file setup reboots PC

Featured Replies

I have a strange problem.  I have finished setting up my system and I am trying to create the file folders on my network drive.

I select the drive from network places and click on create new folder.  Works fine.  When I try to rename that folder and hit enter.  My PC reboots.

I've continued to test other basic operations.  If I try to cut and paste a folder on the network drive or use the windows move command it causes a reboot of my PC.  I can see if there is an error that it would be reported as such.  Why is this causing my PC to reboot?

Have you got another computer you can try this with?  It sounds like a problem with that computer rather than UnRaid, but an independent check would help.

Any interesting entries in the syslog?

There are a few items in the syslog that may provide some insight to the problem.  It may be simply a problem with permissions.  I have my videos spread across 4 hard disks and once I move them to the server I need to be able to restructure where they are stored.  This is a constantly evolving process as we are constantly learning better ways to improve our file structure for ease of management.  I have become very concerned that unRaid may not meet my needs.

I have deleted a lot of the routine copy commands and only included those that were highlighted or did not involve copy files to the server.  This is a Word doc.  I will test with another PC in the AM and post the results.

I have attached both hard wired and wireless from a laptop and it seems to be working OK.  Now I am completely baffled.

Any suggestions on what is causing this?

Please provide details of your system setup and UnRaid version - very difficult to assist without this information.

Nevertheless, if it worked on a different laptop, it sounds like a Windows issue to me.

I am running unRaid 4.7 on a server built by Queegtech.  MSI 880GMA-E45 mobo with a Sempron 145 processor and 4GB Ram in a Azza case with a 520watt power supply.  I have 3-2TB Samsung drives (HD204UI) one parity 2 data and a 1TB Samsung cache drive (F2H103SJ).  MY PC is XP Pro with all the latest updates.

I am simply opening two windows to copy data from the PC to the Server.  That seems to work fine.  When I try to do anything in the server window like create a new folder and then change the name it crashes the PC.  I can delete folders without crashing.

If you need any other info please let me know.

When ever I had a problem copying files it was because explorer crashed on my computer causing my PC to reboot. Not InternetExplorer, but the windows one.

If thats the case it would be your PC not the server.

That makes sense.  The problem is copying files on the same disk on the server.  The cache drive may have something to do with it, but I am not sure.  The other unusual aspect of this is even if I tried to rename a folder on the network drive it crashed.

The ultimate question is ... drum roll... How do I fix it?  Did I have too many explorer windows open?
