Unraid wont boot with Shucked WD drives

Recommended Posts

I'm at a bit of a loss here.

I have 3 WD White label drives, shucked from enclosures. 2 @ 14TB and 1 @ 10TB.

I removed the 3rd 3.3v pin by bending it back and forth gently. (https://www.instructables.com/How-to-Fix-the-33V-Pin-Issue-in-White-Label-Disks-/)

If the drives are powered and connected to SATA, the boot process hangs at the bios splash screen.

If the drives are disconnected, Unraid boots fine. Connecting the drives at this point makes them visible to the "unassigned devices" plugin, I can even format them. But they do not show as available to be placed into the array.

Can some one help me out here?

Thank you!

Your title is misleading, as it's not Unraid that you need to be troubleshooting. Since the boot process never reaches the flash drive, the first suspect would be your BIOS "helpfully" seeing the new drive and assuming you want to boot from it instead of the flash drive.
