[SOLVED] User Shares Question

Featured Replies

I have read through the wiki and posts on the forum and still don't understand how to do this.  I want to create a user share called Music and have sub-directories of MP3s and CDs under Music.  I created the user share called Music using split level 1.  Then I created shares for MP3s and CDs using split level 2.  How do associate these two sub directories with Music vs. another one of my split level 1 user shares such as Backups?

thanks,

Murray

UnRaid currently doesn't support "sub-shares".  Therefore you either simply create your MP3 and CD directories under music (using Windows Explorer or Finder for example), or if you want them to themselves be shares, then you just create them as shares (and you won't be able to put them both in a "Music" folder).

So if I create the sub folders with windows under Music, then anything moved to the MP3s or CD's sub folders will be split across the disks that I have defined for the Music share?

I guess I am still confused with the different split levels.

thanks,

The split level indicates the deepest directory level that you want to split; nothing below this level will be split. Alternatively, you can use a character to define the level. E.g., if you put a "[" (no quotes) in the box then if the directory contains a "[" then it will be split but no directory below it will be split.

The user share is the top level directory which also appears as a network accessible location. Everything below it is just data stored in the user share.

The split level says how many deep the directories can split. For example,

Level 1 - You Music share can split. Any other directory remains on a single disk.

Level 2 - You Music share and the Artist directories can split.

Level 3 - Music share, Artist directories and Album directories can all split.

Allowed to Split means that it can be created on more than one disk which then also means the contents of that directory can be on more than one disk.
