June 25, 200620 yr Does anyone know whether UnRaid can reside on the same network as an additional Linux Samba server? I have a Linux CCTV server (ZoneMinder running on Suse), I recently added Samba configuration to it but the Samba service closes down stating that Samba is already running on my UnRaid server. If I disconnect the UnRaid server the Samba on the CCTV machine comes up fine. I intended to use my CCTV server to transfer files from some Reiserfs partitioned Sata drives that were in my previous Suse Media server prior to setting up UnRaid. It also occurred to me that it is potentially very useful to be able to move CCTV recordings around my network via Samba so I would really like to have both if at all possible. I'm also wondering whether my plans for a 2nd UnRaid server may suffer the same problems? Thanks, Mark.
June 25, 200620 yr Suse User, I don't have any direct experience, but a few minutes searching on google resulted in this link: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/ref-guide/s1-samba-network-browsing.html It describes that you should have only one "master browser" defined in a network. Sounds like all of your samba installations were trying to take control. If nothing elee, it might give you a clue or two on what to look at. In any case, it sounds solvable with a change in the config files. I do know at least one person on this forum has multiple unRaid servers on his newtork so I'm sure it can be done. This does not sound like a unRaid issue specifically, but a configuration issue with Samba. (Although Tom has pre-configured Samba on the unRaid server so it is a bit trickier to configure on your own to customize it) You might need to do a bit more research on how to perform the proper config, but I'll bet it can be done. I originally wanted to run a video capture card in my unRaid server as part of my own CCTV security system. What capture card are you using? Joe L.

I originally wanted to run a video capture card in my unRaid server as part of my own CCTV security system.I don't think this would be a good idea at all, the data writing speed performance needed for video capture isn't going to be possible on an UnRaid server is it? My plan is for scripted backups to a 2nd UnRaid from my Suse ZoneMinder box. What capture card are you using?I'm currently using a BT878 4-Port 4-Chip Generic card that I found the correct driver for by Trial & Error, I'm intending to add another one of these Cards and then use IP Cams for any extra needed coverage. There wasn't even a brand name on the card, If I can find the Model number on it (I have it written down somewhere) I'll edit this post later. I'm very new to Zoneminder as well as UnRaid so I can't offer much in the way of advice yet, but if there's anything you need to know that isn't too technical them PM me, I don't want to be too off-topic on the Forums. Thanks for the Samba info, Mark.
July 4, 200620 yr We routinely have several UnRaid servers on the same network - no problem. Normally, machines running windows networking run through an "election" process to determine Master Browser, but I believe Samba has a config option to force it to always be the Master Browser - perhaps that's what your CCTV server has configured. One thing to try is to introduce the CCTV server to your network first, wait at least 30 minutes, then attach the UnRaid and see if things still work.
July 4, 200620 yr Author Thanks Tomm, My temporary fix has been to run them on different networks, but I would like to be able to back up my CCTV recording to UnRaid (not real time obviously) so I'll give that a try. CCTV is why I'm considering a 2nd UnRaid. Mark.
