June 16, 201115 yr I am new to Unraid and being that I didn’t see any problems on the forms I chose to install 5b6. So far everything has gone good until I started working on the permissions. Currently I have 2 shares and in the unraid menus I can only set each user to read only or full rights to the share. In the tutorial it said I can make it so users don’t have rights to the share, is this changed or am I missing something? Also when I do set the share up it is not active and everyone has full access to the share Lastly not a big problem but, I can not see the server on my windows computer, and I don’t have it hidden in the settings. I have to type the name or IP to get to the shares.

You must change the security type on the settings page to User-Security.
June 16, 201115 yr Author I did and i have here is what i see in my share. Like i have said each user in the share only has 2 choices read only and full, there is no restricted access. Also here is my syslog, i really don't know if there is anything out of the norm in it. syslog.txt
June 16, 201115 yr In pre-5.X versions there is a setting for share security. I don't know where it is set in the new 5.0beta7. I could not find the equivalent.
June 16, 201115 yr Author I think this is where i am having problems :'( I cant find where i can do more advance share security. I would love any help finding this settings. I would rather keep the default webgui, but if the one that "speeding_ant" is posting is better then i guess i can change. Can someone post the share user security menu on that webgui?

There is NO difference in the GUI's (well a little but...) The webGUI speeding_ant put out is a SKIN of the original unRAID webGUI to make it look prettier. He has added a few things but NOTHING in the way of what you are talking about.
June 16, 201115 yr Author I have been playing with this and still can’t find the right settings. Is there documentation on how to manually edit the cfg file on the shares? And any ideas why I can’t see Unraid on my Windows 7 computers unless I manually type the name in?

Not sure And any ideas why I can’t see Unraid on my Windows 7 computers unless I manually type the name in? Set the unRAID server as the Local Master on the network. You should be able to do this via the settings section in the unRAID webGUI.
June 16, 201115 yr Author I have tried that before and just now and it still doesn't seem to work. If you have to restart both machines after making and applying the changes. If it still fails then your windows machine is likely doing something odd on the network that is causing the unRAID machine to not show up. It is nice to have it show up in Network places, but it is something that I have never really put to much effort into figuring out on my one system I have. I use my Mac 99% of the time... so don't care about the windows machine.
June 16, 201115 yr Author Yes I’m the same way about seeing it in network places. I am more conserved about the inability to restrict access to shares. I have seen screen shots of the shares in 4.7 and how you can add and remove users in different categories of right, but for the life of me I don’t see a section like that and what I have found doesn’t seem to work.

Did you ever think it might not be part of the interface on 5.0 yet? But nobody noticed it is missing yet? since we mostly are upgrading existing arrays with existing defined permissions. Have you thought about posting your question in the announcement forum for 5.0beta7? or in the 5.0 development "Other" forum? where it might get more easily noticed by lime-technology? Joe L.
June 16, 201115 yr Author First I am using 5beta6a not 7, next I was hoping someone would point out if it’s a problem with my unraid settings or if I was just blind. I don’t want to post problems with something unless I know it’s not my fault. I appreciate your fast response and I was hoping just to get confirmation from one more person before take human error out of the issue. I will post this issue on the correct forms.

As I said, you are probably the first to ask the question on the 5.0beta series.
June 16, 201115 yr I looked through my 5.0b6a install on my two systems and my findings are the same as yours.
June 16, 201115 yr Same here. One wild guess is it's easier to shoehorn this in late, after AD support is worked out, vs. the reverse.
