July 5, 201114 yr Hi everyone, Currently I'm running unRAID 4.5.4. Reason I'm not upgrading is because of my motherboard and how it has put HPA on one of my drives, and if I change versions I can't access any of my file server because it notices a variation in disk size. I can't upgrade my motherboard yet because I currently don't have the budget to do so. I connect to my unRAID server via my Mac using SMB, yet I am being required to upgrade to OS X Lion from Snow Leopard. Since I read in this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11913.0 and have heard from others that OS X Lion is dropping SMB support, does that mean I'm pretty much screwed? I either upgrade my unRAID version, or I can't utilize OS X Lion? I wasn't sure how to find out any information on what is actually running in 4.5.4 and if there was another way I could connect to the shares instead of using SMB. Obviously upgrading unRAID for the AFP support would be awesome but not in the cards for me at this moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
July 5, 201114 yr I haven't tried Lion yet but doesn't this sentence mean it already supports SMB, just different?(ly - heh) "The upcoming release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Server will remove the formerly bundled open source Samba software and replace it with Apple's own tools for Windows file sharing and network directory services." It sounds like you'll be okay so long as you aren't using NT Domains. (Workgroup or AD only)

(Workgroup or AD only) Haha, I was assuming they were leaving some sort of SMB, I just wasn't sure how it played well with unRAID and if it meant that shares would still be connectable. I have no choice through work but to upgrade to Lion (coming out in a week or so) so I was just trying to squash a bug before I got to it. I appreciate the response though.
July 5, 201114 yr There are far more SMB1/CIFS servers in the world than the newer SMB2, so if the apple is nutty enough to not support CIFS you can expect waves of work-arounds, including building Samba yourself from hundreds of inevitable howtos. I'd keep my eye on your favorite Mac tech forums to see what people are doing.
