July 8, 201114 yr I tried looking in the Wiki and searching here but couldn't see anything... Does unRaid support having more then one network card in the machine? ie, not Teaming, but 2 separate cards with different IPs. this is to separate traffic, connections will be made based on IP. Most data will be on a specific disk, possibly raid array, added to unraid as a single disk and still part of the normal array, just excluded from user shares. thanks!
July 8, 201114 yr Yes, multiple NICs will work but the UI will only allow you to configure the first. The others, you'll have to configure manually. A quick search gives this: [sOLVED] Configure second NIC, which looks promising to me. This is not to be used as a security feature, is it? Because it will not work that way. It can off--load some traffic but that's all there is and there are other ways to achieve this.
July 8, 201114 yr Author Thats for that link! Will have a look. More so, having storage designated for a specific purpose that won't be affected by any other traffic to that box or activity in the array (except a parity check) What 'other ways' are you talking about?

But you cannot designate the service to an IP with a vanilla unRAID. unRAID would provide all its services on all interfaces anyway. Just handing out IP "A" for Service "A" to client-Group "A" is just obscuring the way on how to reach the service for a consumer of that service. It will cost you some amount of management with a result you cannot guarantee. What 'other ways' are you talking about? Maybe I misunderstand your UseCase, but using a smart switch and VLAN tagging for a start could help with automate the load balancing without having to manage any client IPs for the designated service outside of the switch.
July 9, 201114 yr Author No, but if i make machine connect to the unraid with a specific IP address, and use the other IP for everything else then that will achieve what i want. The second NIC may even just be a straight cable between 2 machines with a different subnet. yes, but a 16 port managed gig switch isn't cheap
