Is my parity disk dead?

Featured Replies

My parity disk is disabled as of this afternoon. I know there can be a lot of causes for disabled disks. I've tried some troubleshooting but still having issues.

I've tried:

Stopping array and removing disk from parity slot

Starting Array

Stopped again and re-adding (and removing the disk from historical devices)

This allows a parity check to start, but the disk gets disabled after a few minutes

I've also tried power cycling the server, but this didn't seem to make a difference

Is this possible a cable/power issue, or is my drive dead?

Disk dropped offline so there's no SMART report, check/replace cables and post new diags.

Moved parity disk to an unassigned device (sdi)

Disk appears to be failing, you can run ane extended SMART test to confirm.

Result was "Completed: Read Failure"

If a drive cannot pass a SMART test without errors then it needs to be replaced.
