July 19, 201114 yr I added a cache drive today it is enabled and activated for a 3 user shares. I tried to copy a file direct to one a mapped drive to one of those user shares and it started copying to one of the main drives. What am I missing? Then I went to get my syslog to post with this thread and found a LONG list of red (error) lines in unMENU. I copied those lines and and have attached them. syslog-2011-07-19.txt
July 20, 201114 yr The only lines I noticed that looked like a problem where these Jul 19 02:16:50 TODD-Svr emhttp: get_config_idx: fopen /boot/config/shares/MDS Files.cfg: No such file or directory - assigning defaults Jul 19 02:16:50 TODD-Svr emhttp: get_config_idx: fopen /boot/config/shares/Misc Television (uncataloged).cfg: No such file or directory - assigning defaults Jul 19 02:16:50 TODD-Svr emhttp: get_config_idx: fopen /boot/config/shares/Music Concerts.cfg: No such file or directory - assigning defaults Jul 19 02:16:50 TODD-Svr emhttp: get_config_idx: fopen /boot/config/shares/Music Videos & Concerts.cfg: No such file or directory - assigning defaults It appears there is no config file for those user shares. I have no idea if these are the shares you are trying to use with the cache or not but if they are, there is the problem. Maybe try setting the shares up again. Peter

Peter Only one of those is set up to use the cache, the other three are not. So no, I don't think that is the cache problem. At least two of them were moved from one physical disk to another after first being copied over, and one was renamed after initially set up. That probably explains where problems were initiated and I will delete / re-set up the shares though. One of them was the last one I copied over, so not sure why it has an issue. The first directories I created in the main disk shares set up their own names in the share list. Later this didn't seem to happen automatically. When are these created in the list by default and when are they. What folders on the drive actually have to have their own share? Is it just folders in the root directory of each physical drive? Surely folders 2 and 3 deep don't need to have an associated share? Finally, the entire section of syslog that is in my original question was red. If only 4 lines are a problem, then why the long list of red lines? Thanks for your time to analyze the file and for the help.

Don't read too much in to the color coding provided by unMenu. unMenu is a user created add-on that uses simple regular expressions to determine how to color code. I was doing more reading on user shares and it looks like when I either renamed or move these top level folders, I broke the connection. So what is the best way to fix this?
July 20, 201114 yr Author Are those folders also shares? OK, I'm probably confused. I have "folders" in my top level directories of various drives. These folders are also "shares" in unRAID. All of these folders / shares have data in them now. I don't see any way to delete the "share" without also deleting the "folder" is that correct? Having said that, I think I have this solved. I went to the setup for those 4 shares in the unRAID GUI, checked to make sure the renaming I had done was correctly shown, and updated the included / excluded disks based on the moves. re-applied the settings. powered down and rebooted. The errors no longer show up in the syslog. So this should be resolved, correct? There is a slight hesitancy to access those shares from my media player that I don't think used to exist. Please clarify my first question above so I know I'm handling this correct. Thanks. Also I'm back to my original question about the cache. I'm about to retry that test again too.

July 20, 201114 yr Author Well after rebooting.... the cache problem is solved as well Looks like it's working fine. Thanks for the help.
