January 25, 20233 yr Hey, I would like to install Unraid on a Dell PowerEdge T310 from around 2010 with 8GB EEC DDR3 RAM (800 MHz). When I boot from the stick, I get the following error message: "Failed to allocate memory for kernel command line, bailing out Booting kernel fails: Bad file number.". What can I do to work around this problem? I am not very familiar with the server unfortunately. Greetings
January 26, 20233 yr Community Expert IIRC It's a known issue with those servers when booting UEFI, it should work if you boot CSM.
January 26, 20233 yr Author Where can I set this? I can't find anything under F2 in the server settings.
January 26, 20233 yr Community Expert Can't help with that, never had a Dell server, there should be a BIOS option for that.
January 26, 20233 yr Author I have now only found one option in the BIOS settings where I can switch between UEFI and BIOS for the boot - is that it? But then when I switch to BIOS, it can not boot the stick at all. No bootable Device found. Edited January 26, 20233 yr by Dsimon24
January 26, 20233 yr Community Expert Yes, should be that, might need then to choose the boot devices for that mode.
January 26, 20233 yr Author I can select the stick as an option there, but it still can't boot. Strange.
January 26, 20233 yr Community Expert How did you create the flash drive? If it was manually did you run make_bootable.bat as admin? It's not needed for UEFI boot but it won't boot CSM without running it.
January 26, 20233 yr Author I would have to check this again. I had previously used the stick in another Unraid server and now want to move to new hardware. But I had originally created the stick with the Unraid Stick Tool.
January 26, 20233 yr Community Expert If it was created with the USB tool it should be OK, but it might be worth testing or running make_bootable again to confirm.
