Mac OSX, SMB, XBMC and Unraid (plus) problems

Recommended Posts

Since this evening, since upgrading from unraid basic to unraid plus, I can no longer in XBMC see my shares by clicking:

add video source ---> Windows SMB ---> Tower

I cannot do this because there is no tower (or any other shares for that matter) which appear. Just '...', i.e. go back. I am at a loss for why this is. I can see shares on my windows PC but the three mac appliances display no shares, computers... anything under SMB.

Can someone please help me resolve this problem? Will I have to switch sharing protocool for XBMC between my macs? Its really frustrating because my unraid server is now up and its struggling to properly synchronise with XBMC. I can add network location manually on XBMC but I really want to be able to see all the SMB shares normally.

Nope.

I cannot see any SMB shares right now on my mac by going on XBMC:

Video Files --> Windows (SMB) ---> nothing

It doesn't load and instantly just shows a blank screen.

May I ask for a screenshot of your network settings in XBMC?

On your mac try:

Finder/Go/Connect to Server...

smb://UNRAIDIPADDRESS

Connect

Can you connect to the server?

If not restart your mac.

If it still doesn't work try restarting everything including unplugging your router and network hubs.

Sometimes I get nothing when I go to smb via XBMC, a restart normally sorts it.

i am not currently at my house, but i did have a problem like this recently. What i ended up doing was reformatting my usb drive (keeping the file that contained the license info) and when i reinstalled the unraid files everything seemed to be working again. i must have messed something up when i was changing a file. i don't know if this is the same problem you are having or not, but if you just got the license info i would copy that somewhere safe (desktop) and reformat your flash drive. When the system starts back up it should see all the root folders in each disk and make them into a share for you.

please keep in mind that i am by no means an expert, and my case may be different than yours. proceed with caution. when it comes to this stuff, i usually seek tom's (or one of the local gurus on the forum) advice before formatting anything.
