I currently have an unraid server with the ffg specs

8th gen intel i5 8400

32GB Corsair 3200MHz RAM (4 x 8GB Stick)

MSI 1080Ti (Used for TDarr transcoding)

Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X

Fractal Ion+ 2 Platinum 760W PSU

3 x 10TB Ironwolf (standard ones, not the pro) HDDs 1 in parity and 2 in use

1 x 1TB 2.5inch SSD im using for my windows, ubuntu and red hat VM's

2 x 512GB nvme SSD's for cache (pci 3.0)

All in a fractal define 7 chassis

Right now I want more Cores for my VM's so im looking at the intel i5 13500 to be paired with an Asus Z790 Prime DDR4 mobo and keep the same ram

Some questions

- I can get a Gigabyte Z790 Gaming X thats DDR5 but is DDR5 RAM worth it on unraid for anything? Because that means I'll have to buy new RAM sticks

- Should I look at a 7th gen Ryzen 5 5600

- Does plex transcoding work with ryzen integrated graphics as well as intels integrated graphics?

I would doubt change from 8400 to 13500 / 5600 will have big difference. In general, they are 6 core platform.

Also same for DDR4 to DDR5.

Would the hyperthreading help in the case of the 13500?

Im sort of put off by the AMD as it doesnt support plex transcoding on the integrated GPU.
