April 16, 20233 yr I'm getting into SFP+ switches and NICs and I would like to know how everyone goes about buying these transceivers? I know RJ-45 is not efficient but in certain cases it's required. ie. I need to connect an old 1 GBE switch to my 10G network. I'd like to know what to look for and as I'm finding out now, what transceivers don't heat up so much.? I imagine some have their go to brand but I'm relatively new this area and don't know the ropes per-say. So far I have been buying fs.com transceivers and I have no issues with them but if I can save some $'s maybe the community can share some insight on this?
April 16, 20233 yr if you run them with 1G only, they do not heat up that much. The brand does not matter, it needs to be accepted by your switch. So your buying choices are usually somewhat limited. But with most switches I know you do not need a RJ45 Transceiver at all. They come with a "management port" that can be used as a normal port too. And these are usually 1G (only) already. So if you only need one line, you are done with them.
