Unraid crashing, please help

Recommended Posts

Hi, hope I'm posting this in the right place, recently my unraid server ahs taken to randomly crashing, it will be functioning normally and suddenly become unresponsive to any attempt to connect to it or even simply pinging it. The machine lives in my attic but when I hop up there the screen is blank with no indication as to what has happened. These crashes seem random, can happen whilst idling or under load but I have noted running handbrake causes it to happen more frequently but does not guarantee a crash.

I've turned on logging to the flash drive and attached the log its generated, this covers too crashes close together in the last hour. I've tried reading them but I don't know what I'm looking for and I'm not sure if they'll have caught any usable information.

Machine specs

3900X

B450-F Motherboard running latest bios (Global C-States disabled)

32GB DDR4 RAM ( 4 x 8GB sticks 3600MHz rated but running at 3200MHz due to some previous issues)

Nvidia P400 - used for Plex transcoding

2 x 512GB NVME WD Blue - pooled, holds system, appdata, domains, music, iso's

2 x 500GB SSD Crucial BX500 - serves as cache for the array

1 x 6TB WD Green - no part of array, used to hold downloads

Array

3 x 6TB WD Green - one as parity, other 2 data

2 x 3TB WD Blue - both data

1 x 4TB WD Purple - data

I've just installed a 9207-8i HBA card that does all the drives except the download drive and obviously the NVME. Previously these were connected to the SATA ports on the board and a PCIe SATA card. Don't think this is anything to do with the issue but included because why not.

Network runs off the built in gigabit controller on the motherboard, there is an additional 2.5Gbe card that used to connected directly to my main pc but this is currently not being used.

At this point I have no idea what is causing the issue and hoping someone can help me work out what i going on as I've run out of ideas.

Thanks for the reply, I had forgotten to set the load line calibration so corrected that and I've backed off the RAM timings to 2933 and it appeared to have help but then the system crashed out again this evening. Reckon running the RAM at base speeds is worth a shot? Not sure why its acting up now as I've been running it at 3200 for a while without issue
