Upgrading my Unraid to Intel i9 13900K and Z790 Maximus motherboard.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I need some help on how can I upgrade my motherboard and CPU without affecting my data and settings (dockers and plugins), is it even possible?

Currently: Ryzen 9 3950X, B450 Gaming Plus Max, 32gb RAM, RTX 3080 FE

Upgrading: i9 13900K, Asus Rog Z790 Maximus, 64Gb RAM and Quadro RTX 5000.

Idea for the build is mainly for transcoding media using Handbrake and Plex, maybe trying out VM’s.

Any input will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Unraid itself basically doesn't care about hardware, so all storage should go through seamlessly.

You will need to adjust apps that direct access hardware obviously.

The iGPU should be able to do what you plan to use the Quadro for so that can probably go.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of using the Quadro as I read, that it gives me the possibility to have more simultaneous transcoding than any other card or CPU.

Hi Beat-0,

could you please post your part list what you end up with at the end and maybe you can share your experience so far.

I am looking also for a setup around a 13900K ;)

thanks!

Hello friend, I haven’t tried the UnRaid yet but I am confident that it would be great. My son has been gaming with it for the past 3 days and he says it’s great, high FPS and maintain cool around 35-37 degrees Celsius while gaming. The items with links, I bought everything from Amazon, received it in 1 day. Good luck with your build. NOTE: was about to go Ryzen 7950x but based all research for better results for UnRaid and more support Intel is the best. Tonight I will start working on the UnRaid to see how it turns out. FYI, I installed Windows 11 Pro for the gaming, using just (XMP2). Motherboard comes with a few AI Settings Tweaks (memory and cpu for overclocking and undervolting)
