July 30, 20232 yr Hey guys. This problem has actually been going on for several months now, but I've just been working around it and delaying getting more help with it. I'm using Unraid v6.11.1, and here are the plugins I have installed... ...and an overview of my system hardware... ...And my diagnostics zip is attached below. 🙂 The problem I've been having is that if I make any changes to a file within any directory on my array, then go back and try to move or rename that directory, I'm prevented from doing so and receive the error message in Windows Explorer that says: "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again." This is occurring after the file has already been saved and closed. I found a few other topics asking about problems similar to this one, and I've tried a few of the basic suggestions recommended there, but many of the solutions in other threads involved entering very specific commands into the Unraid command line and frankly I feel a little uncomfortable doing anything that in-depth without some more personalized guidance from someone more experienced with this stuff and who can see my system specs and diagnostic info. But the things I've tried so far that successfully have unlocked any stuck directories (temporarily at least) are: restarting Windows or the array (of course), disconnecting and re-mapping the array Network Drive in Windows explorer, installing or updating a plugin, toggling "Enable Docker" either on or off, and then sometimes I'm able to go back later and make changes to the problematic directory(s) out of the blue without having done any of those things, and I'm not sure what it was that caused them to be unlocked in those cases. The issue does continue though if I make any more changes to files within those directories. Interestingly I am still able to simply create a brand new directory and then move all the files contained within the problematic directory to the new directory without any problem (until I make any changes within that new directory, and then it locks too). I've also tried running "Docker Safe New Perms" as well as regular "New Permissions" multiple times, even including the "appdata" folder on one occasion just to try it (I don't use any dockers). I've tried going to Windows "Credential Manager" and deleting the saved user name and password for my array (multiple attempts there as well). I've also tinkered around with User settings and Share settings on the array, deleting/re-adding my user profile and credentials there, changing Read/Write permissions, and also switching between different security settings for the share (Public, Secure, & Private). None of these things have fixed the issue and I'm hoping that someone will see what might be going on that's been causing this to continuously be a problem for the past several months. I really appreciate your time. Please let me know if you need any other info from me. 🙂 skynet-diagnostics-20230730-0522.zip Edited July 30, 20232 yr by Intothisworld
September 1, 20232 yr Community Expert Sounds more like a Windows problem, do you have or can borrow another PC to test with?
September 1, 20232 yr Author Alright, I just tested this on my laptop, and you're right it does work as usual on this other PC. Although a couple things are different on the laptop, namely it's running Windows 7 (as opposed to Windows 10), and I'm also connecting there via Wi-Fi whereas on my regular PC it's via 10GbE Mellanox card and an SFP+ cable.
September 1, 20232 yr Community Expert Solution Still points to an OS issue/configuration, a clean reinstall should fix it.
September 1, 20232 yr Author Hrm, alright. I've needed to re-install Windows for a couple other reasons too, so this is good timing actually. Thank you for your help!
