Data-Rebuild Size

Featured Replies

Dual 20TB parity disks, replaced a 6TB with a 16TB *precleared* disk.

I expected a 6TB parity-build size. It's 16TB. Any reason for that?

The rebuild process does not need a disk to have been precleared so since Preclear is not a standard Unraid feature it is not taking this into account.

I know the rebuild process doesn't need preclear, because than it rebuilds the entire disk.

Logically it seems to me that if the range of data between 6TB and 16TB is cleared on that disk,

it should be conforming with the parity mechanism (if I would add this disk to the array instead of replacing a smaller disk, no rebuilt was necessary),

than why does it has to be rebuilt between 6TB and 16TB?

Since Preclear is not a standard part of Unraid the rebuild process does not check whether the disk has a Preclear signature.    I agree that it could as an optimisation but that would be a new feature/enhancement.
