Disk missing - Imported Foreign Config in RAID controller but disk ID is now changed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I had a drive go offline, or into a foreign state. A reboot of the server was enough to snap it out of that state, and re-import the Foreign Config back into the RAID array.

However, in unRAID it's now showing Missing and then Wrong when I go to add the drive back to the list.

Should I ignore the warnings about data being erased, or use the New Config utility and preserve all current assignments?

I'd appreciate any advice for this, or if there's any additional information I can help provide.

RAID controllers NOT recommended with Unraid for many reasons

Note: RAID controllers are not recommended for Unraid, this includes all LSI MegaRAID models, doesn't mean they cannot be used but there could be various issues because of that, like no SMART info and/or temps being displayed, disks not being recognized by Unraid if the controller is replaced with a different model, and in some cases the partitions can become invalid, requiring rebuilding all the disks.

To play it safer, and assuming parity is valid, I would start the array with disk4 unassigned, if the emulated disk mounts and contents look correct rebuild on top.

Hi Jorge,

"Start will disable the missing disk and then bring the array on-line. Install a replacement disk as soon as possible."

Select this option here, correct?

Correct, then see if the emulated disk mounts and contents look correct.
