syslog viewability from the http interface

Featured Replies

One of the features I like about the Infranet Ready NAS is the ability to see the logs right from the web interface.

Considering that many times it is asked to post the syslog, it might be useful to see this information directly from the interface.

In addition, adding an entry to allow sending syslog messages to a loghost may be useful to those of us who have more then one machine in thier network

I do this already with some mods during the boot process.

But there is little I can do to have the syslogs viewable from the http interface.

If you install Apache, Twonky, or other HTTP server on your unRAID box, you can symlink to the logs and other files so they are viewable from the management interface.

But you have a good idea, this would be useful and fairly simple to implement right in the management interface.

Boy, do I second or third this one.  And although not strictly necessary, put a 'Save syslog' button next to the 'View syslog'.  Button should save it in text format, with a filename containing something like 'syslog' + towername + timestamp + '.txt'.  This would sure help some of us, when trying to help new users.

I know I could install another http daemon.

Just seems like this should be there as part of the standard management interface.

Plus my goal is to keep the current config lightweight.

When we have an environment that can use more ram I'll drop in apache.
