Replacing two drives - Please verify my procedure

Featured Replies

I want to replace an 8TB parity disk with a 10TB disk. (That's straightforward enough, remove / replace, let it rebuild)

But: I want to re-use the 8TB old parity disk to replace a 4TB drive.

When I plug it in, will un-raid re-recognize it as the old parity disk?  Will it (hopefully) prompt me to re-format it and re-use it?

Or ... is there another procedure I'm missing here.

Thanks in advance.

You're correct.  After the 10TB parity sync is complete, simply assign the old 8TB parity to a data slot.  Unraid will prompt you to clear and format it.

Do NOT format if asked, rebuild should just be straight forward.

Clearing and formatting is only applicable to adding a NEW data slot, not replacing an existing one. The format will be recreated as part of the rebuild process.

Hmm, I read the original question as wanting to add the old parity as an additional data disk.  My mistake.  If replacing an existing data disk, then yes, don't format.
