LSI SAS3008 cannot format HDD

Hi,

 

I am using the following card and it is in IT Mode. Bought it from ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/125443426997

Inspur LSI SAS3008-i 8-Port 12Gb PCIe 3.0 SATA/SAS HBA IT Mode 

 

I am able to format HDD if they are connected to the motherboard SATA ports. I am using Unraid in VirtualBox. I am able to passthrough the drives to the Unraid VM in VirtualBox but I cannot format the drives connected to the HBA card. I can see the drives but the format fails and it says unsupported format and unmountable.

I am passing it thru as SATA drive in Virtualbox under Controller: SATA and I can format the drives.

I tried to set it up through

but then I am unable to see the drives in Unraid. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Do I need to update the firmware. Not sure what version it is right now and where to find the latest FW version either.
