How do I swap a parity drive while array is missing one drive?

Featured Replies

I currently have one disk missing on my array after I dropped it while rebuilding my server. I was already looking to buy more drives so I got two 18TB drives, however, my current parity is 14TB. My setup looks like this

Parity - 14TB

Array - 3x 8TB (one missing)

What I'd like to get to

Parity - 18TB

Array - 2x 8TB, 1x 14TB, 1x 18TB

Trying to figure out how best to go about this since my parity is currently emulating a missing disk. This is what I was thinking

  1. Add one 18TB drive as a second parity
  2. Allow dual parity build (assuming that's what will happen)
  3. After successful parity build, add second 18TB drive to unraid to replace missing drive
  4. After data is rebuilt, take out 14TB parity drive and add it back to the array

Does this make sense? Or am I missing anything?
