Hi all,

Long time unraid/plex user, looking to upgrade for 4k content. Currently running an 11 year old E3-1245 V2 on a Supermicro X9SCL with 15 spinning disks. My intention is to start from scratch on the system hardware, move my disks over and put old drives (smaller) in my existing system for a back-up for most critical data.

New machine planned:

Case: Fractal Design Define 7 XL + 12 extra trays

CPU: Intel Core i5-12500 3 GHz 6-Core

Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin

Mobo: MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600

HBA: 2 x LSI 9207-8i with breakout cables

PSU: Corsair RM850x 850W

2 new 20TB WD Red Pros for new parity drives

Want to run 18 spinning disks; 3 SSD for cache pool/app data; an e-sata for external dock. Hoping to manage 4x 4k streams plus a few 1080 clients. Hoping to handle 7-10 simultaneous users (at least half direct stream). Also run the -arr suite, a few home automation dockers, and a few VMs (development testing environments and a print server,  no heavy load), would also like some future capacity so this thing can run for another 10 years.

Am I limiting myself anywhere? waisting money anywhere? Can I meet my needs with something more power efficient for a 24/7-on server?

Appreciate any input you have!

Cheers

Roger. Updated to a better cooler. I'm a little concerned about RAM clearance - but worst case I return it I suppose.
