Lock error / Error 5

Featured Replies

So I’m planning my Unraid install, have ordered several drives today. While waiting I’m trying to prepare the USB stick, but The USB Flash Creator repeatedly reports “Lock error” after running the downloaded exe-file. I have tried several USB sticks, (Kingston and Sandisk), and chosen different install versions, but the USB install always ends with the “Lock error” message. Plus my Win11 machine always locks up and has to be hard reset. I also have an old Win10 laptop, and tried to run the exe-file there. Exactly the same thing happened.

(The enclosed pic was stolen from someone here with the same problem 3 years ago, hence the older Unraid version. At that time the workaround was to do it manually. This is no longer an option since the downloaded file now is an exe file)

How can I fix this? I’m about to give up…

The same page that has the USB Creator tool for download also has the links to download the zip files for the latest Unraid releases that can be used with the manual install method.
