Help with drives constantly spinning up?

Featured Replies

Hello and happy festive period one and all.

Ive been running unraid for 3 weeks. My disks are set to spin down after 15mins. I know that others have had issues where the disks spin down then back up again soon after. I've installed file activity and it doesn't show any activity that would cause a disk to spin up. I've also used Active Streams - but there is no activity. I've disabled docker and have no VMs. But, still something is causing then to spin up. Any pointers / tips to find the cause? Its a fairly new set-up (few weeks). The only other plugins / apps have are:

Appdata Backup
CA Mover Tuning
CA
Dynamix Active Streams
Dynamix File Manager
File Activity
Common Problems
GPU Statistics
Intel GPU TOP
Unassigned Devices / UD Plus / UD Preclear

Ive also tried Dynamix Cache Directories plugin to see if helps. But drives still don't stay spun down.

File activity shows no activity for hours, and with spin down set to 15 minsas should the drives not spin down and stay spin down until used?

But they still seem to constantly spin up again.

Any idea how to trouble shoot this as I really would like the drives to spin down.

Hello, I will post diagnostics on furture posts.

But, I have found the reason so wanted to reports back should anybody else have the same issue.

First I rebooted.  I do not use VMs so VMs are disabled.  With all dockers stopped, I painstakingly enabled them 1 by 1 (starting with plex + *arr) leaving for an hour or so between.  I found that dash-dot was spinning the drives up.  After a little searching I found a solution to turn 'Privileged' off.  Have tested this overnight and drives stayed spun down.  So, I hope this was the fix.  Just took 30hrs of trial and error to find!  Hope this helps others.

This has saved me a great deal of trouble. Thank you!
