Slow Parity-Sync Speed

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I just setup my Unraid server and then added a parity drive. My setup consists of two 12TB drives with one in parity. I have started the initial parity-sync with speeds between 30-40MB/s but this seems very low. I have ran Diskspeed on both drives where the speed starts at ~200MB/s and ends at ~100MB/s which seems normal to me. Any ideas why the parity-sync is so much slower?

Thanks

Parity disk has a failing now SMART attribute, which I believe is the helium level, try swapping both disks around, issue may only show during writes.

The parity disk also seems to have 44 reallocated sectors which is never a good sign if this is a newish drive.

Thanks for the info! It was a failing drive.

I moved the parity drive to the array and tried copying to it. The transfer speed started at ~200MB/s but slowed to ~40MB/s within a minute. I put a different 2TB drive in, copied all my files to it, then made the good 12TB drive the parity. Now have 200MB/s parity sync

Thanks for the help! The drive has been RMA'd
