February 22, 20242 yr I plan to get this network card with 2 10gbe ports https://www.misco.co.uk/product/Networking/Network-Adapters/StarTech-com/StarTech-com-2-Port-10Gbps-PCIe-Network-Adapter-Ca?prodid=8223728 I would like to connect it to this switch that I have https://www.scan.co.uk/products/5-port-tp-link-tl-sx105-10g-multi-gigabit-desktop-switch-5x-100-1g-25g-5g-10g-fanless-plug-and-play?_gl=1*lhgmxd*_ga*MTc2MTM3MTM5OC4xNzA1ODk5NDc3*_ga_8GFH5M08Q5*MTcwODYwNDI0OC41Ny4xLjE3MDg2MDQ2MzQuNjAuMC4w I would like to be able to run two lanes of 10gbe between the server and the switch to provide more bandwidth to the computers connected to the switch? Also one last bit to add, I have two 1gbe ports on my motherboard built in, would it be possible to use those as fail safes and the twin 10gbes as separate lanes to increase bandwidth Edited February 22, 20242 yr by Myriad Studios LDN
February 22, 20242 yr Community Expert The card may work, the switch will not. This is an "unmanaged" switch, it does not support any "bonding" (port aggregation). But, why do you need "more bandwidth" if you only have 5 ports? Two are gone for UNRAID, three are left (naah, two only, one is gone for the router) ???? If you have only 2 computers to attach, you could put all nics into one bridge (no bond!). Use direct 10G Connections to every computer and one 1G line to your router. Does not need a switch at all (but of course, is not very good for future expansions).
February 22, 20242 yr Author I tried to connect directly to the computer before without that switch before and I'm not sure what I did wrong but couldn't get it working, however since my current switch won't support what I'm trying to do I guess I can't lose by adding all the ports into one bridge? Any advice on how I do that? I think the direct connection require certain settings on the computers whereas the switch kinda just works

But be aware, this device has fan(s?), small, fast and evil sounding. It is meant to be put into a rack in the computer room, not on your desk (it will drive you crazy). Maybe look for something else, more silent. (hint, "rack" switches have usually their plugs on the front side whereas "desktop" switches have them on the back (to keep the cables behind the box). Watch for "desktop", "fanless" and "managed". (but, if you dare, this one will be fine too, even looks great with 8x sfp+ cages) (hint2: if "fanless" and a lot of sfp+ cages read the manual before buy! usually these devices are capable of doing all ports with fiber, but only a few one (if any!) with twisted pair. This is because of the gigantic heat dissipation between those two type of connectors)
