March 24, 200818 yr I was running 3.0 for the last year with no problems and decided to upgrade to 4.2.4 today. I followed the wiki instructions, formated and flashed the usb key with 4.2.4, and then copied the the files listed from the old to the new config folder. Now the server isn't booting anymore. It is pausing on bzroot. Any ideas? Hardware was unchanged. Help please! TIA, CNV
March 24, 200818 yr Try this: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1676.msg11412#msg11412 Joe L.
March 25, 200818 yr Author I changed the line to: append initrd=bzroot rootdelay=10 acpi=off nolapic noapic Still nothing.
March 25, 200818 yr Did you run "syslinux -ma x:" on your USB drive after you reformatted it? (where x: = drive letter assigned by windows)
March 25, 200818 yr Author yup... i ran syslinex. So here is exactly what I did... reformat USB key.. FAT32.. UNRAID Run c:\syslinux e: (e: is the USB key) When I do this a small black screen pops up for a quick second and then disappears. copy over these files from my old config folder into the new config folder. Super.dat ident.cfg network.cfg share.cfg Does everything look correct? Thanks for the help Joe!
March 25, 200818 yr Don't forget to copy disk.cfg and your key file from the old folder, if they exist.
March 25, 200818 yr Author I jut added the disk.cfg rob and still have the same results. bzimage loads but bzroot stops after several lines of ......". I dont have a key file because I'm only running three drives and was going to add another drive right after the update.
March 26, 200818 yr Author Just tried to recopy the bzroot files and still no boot. So what options do I have from here? Should I build a new system using the popular hardware that is known to work? I have 1.25tb of data on the 3 disk and my main computer's drives are full so I can't download anything at the moment. Vista is also reporting a hard drive failure so I want to transfer the data ASAP. I'm so screwed.
March 26, 200818 yr So here is exactly what I did... Run c:\syslinux e: (e: is the USB key) When I do this a small black screen pops up for a quick second and then disappears. This is where you have an error, it should read: c:\syslinux -ma e:
March 27, 200818 yr Author Lohkay, I just tried c:\syslinux -ma e: and still no go. When I run syslinux a black screen opens and closes immediately. Is that right?
March 27, 200818 yr Did you put syslinux.exe at the root of your "C" drive? If you did, then the command c:\syslinux ... is correct If you did not put syslinux.exe at c:, then the command is not executing at (all at least with that syntax) At the "Run" prompt, type "cmd" That should open up a DOS window. Executing c:\syslinux -ma e: in that window, you can see any error messages. Joe L.
March 28, 200818 yr Author its definitely at the root of the c drive. After I run syslinux the drive space used goes from 0kb to 14kb so it looks like it installed correctly. One of my drives on my computer crashed today before I could back it up on my Unraid NAS. I lost 450g of data.
March 31, 200818 yr Author Don't you guys give up on me! Should the server still boot without any of the old config files copied over to the newly formated, 4.2.4 unraid USB key? These are the files that were in the old config folder. Which of these should be copied to the new one? disk.cfg. ident.cfg share.cfr license.txt go super network.cfg

These are the files that were in the old config folder. Which of these should be copied to the new one? disk.cfg. ident.cfg share.cfr license.txt go super network.cfg OK... lets not give up on the old hardware quite yet. So here is exactly what I did... reformat USB key.. FAT32.. UNRAID Run c:\syslinux e: (e: is the USB key) When I do this a small black screen pops up for a quick second and then disappears. copy over these files from my old config folder into the new config folder. Super.dat ident.cfg network.cfg share.cfg I'm not sure you really needed to reformat the flash drive to upgrade from 3.0, but since you did, I suspect it as being the root cause of your boot-up issues. From what I seen on these forums, some MB bios can only boot flash drives that have been formatted with the HP utility. What did you use to re-format the USB flash drive? Did you do this using the HP tool? Or did you do this using the built-in windows utility? Do you get to the boot menu where you can choose either the memory test or to boot the unRaid server? Can you run the memory test? What exactly is on the screen when the boot-up sequence freezes? Did you copy bzroot and bzimage from the 4.2.4 unzipped release on your PC to the root of your flash drive? Before you unplugged the flash drive from your PC, did you click "safely remove hardware" on your tool-bar to remove it? (this would write any cached/in-memory partially written files to the flash drive) Joe L.
April 2, 200818 yr Author Thanks for not giving up on me! I definitely screwed up by formating the drive. I just got HP utility and will try to format the usb key with it. I can run memtest and have ran it without any errors. its pausing on bzroot. Bzimage loads after a line of "........" and the bzroot begins to load with several lines of "........" and then it just pauses. The cap lock key still works and the computer just hangs there. Im going to try the hp tool and will get back to you guys.
April 2, 200818 yr If you are getting that far, it is not a boot issue, and using the HP format tool is probably not going to do anything. I would try and copy a fresh copy of bzroot (maybe rename the current one to bzroot.old). It sounds more like the flash drive is going bad than a boot problem.
April 2, 200818 yr Author I tried a fresh copy of bzroot, a different usb key, and still had the same problem. Still hangs on " loading bzroot...............".
