PeterT
I'm setting up a new UNRAID system, using a collection of "old" drives. The motherboard bios sees all the drives, 3 SATA and 2 PATA. UNRAID installs, but when selecting the devices, only the SATA drives are available. Motherboard is ASUS P5LD2-VM, 1 gbyte RAM BIOS settings: 'Auto' for LBA, Block transfer, DMA mode, PIO mode. 32 bit transfer enabled Sorry if this has been discussed before, but couldn't see anything browsing thru the forum Link to comment
Joe L.
Pretty sure it is a BIOS setting. Seem to remember somebody whose PATA drives disappeared when they added SATA drives, until they set the right option in the BIOS. Might have even been the same MB. Check out this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1588.0 See if the bios option for SATA mode is the same in your bios. Joe L. Link to comment
PeterT
Thanks, Joe - that was it. So, for this motherboard: In BIOS Settings IDE configuration (Incorrect options in brackets) Configure SATA as Standard IDE (SATA) Onboard IDE Operation Mode enhanced (compatible) Combined Mode Operation SATA only (PATA only, Primary PATA+SATA) Regards. Joe L.
Be aware that on some motherboards. configuring the SATA drives as IDE made them run really really slow, as if in PIO mode. You will know if this is true in your case if your parity build takes days to complete, instead of hours. If your parity build speed is fast, then don't worry about the BIOS options that allow you to see all the drives. If slow, some other combination of BIOS options will probably work. Joe L. PeterT
Thanks, again, Joe - it took ~ 3 hours to cfeate the parity, format disks; so far so good. Link to comment
